Free Kindle Books Becoming More Common

With the increased popularity of e-book readers, a fairly recent phenomenon, and the number of new readers in development, it’s pretty easy to become focused on the technical capabilities of the hardware. However, there are other implications resulting from the e-book revolution which are not hardware driven. For example, if you go to the Amazon Kindle store, then it’s possible to find a fair number of free Kindle ebooks. Many of these are classics, but there is a growing trend amongst publishers who have a series of books to make the first volume available as a free Kindle edition. It’s something that they couldn’t have done with either paperbacks or hardbacks – and we might see it happening a lot more in the near future.
