Data Recovery Through PC Imaging
I recently spilled a cocktail on my laptop. The machine was ruined, but thanks to PC imaging, my hard drive was saved. PC imaging is the act of copying a computer or laptop’s hard drive exactly, and in my case, the technician placed the information on a CD. I then purchased another laptop and simply downloaded all the hard drive information into the new machine.
Data or disaster recovery is one of the primary uses of PC imaging. Another purpose is when upgrading hardware. PC imaging also comes in handy after a hard drive is accidentally erased. As in my case, it is always a good idea to back up your information. Should a vodka and lemonade enter into the picture again, I am ready.
Businesses often maintain a disaster recovery plan. My mishap was inconvenient and somewhat costly, but pales in comparison of what a profit-generated organization would endure, should they lose valuable hard drive information. Fires, floods or tornadoes, are only a few of the natural disasters that threaten a company’s livelihood. Security threats, such as viruses, are the human-generated catastrophes that can destroy personal and business computers.
Contingency plans often include PC imaging, should data be lost. A plan would further analyze a company’s loss of business functions, in the event of disaster.
Depending on a business size, departments must prepare for the worst. An overall disaster recovery plan includes the entire company while each department maintains the portion of the plan that affects them. IT professionals should weigh in heavily on this topic.
If your company is small … perhaps less than five employees … a disaster recovery plan is still a good idea, but PC imaging software is available online. Enter the term Pc imaging and many opportunities appear.
Preparation is key to the success of any business. Prepare against any unforeseen disaster … either man-made or natural.
